There’s a new way to step into the FOLKLIFE world—and it’s right at your fingertips.

Our print volumes will always be our heart, but now you don’t have to wait six months to be inspired, to meet someone new, or to get lost in a beautiful story. We’re so stoked to be able to offer this.

The new folklife.ca is a place you can wander and connect. A home for our soulful, slow, quintessentially west coast stories—always here when you need them.

Here on the new FOLKLIFE website, you’ll find:

  • Even more beautiful stories about island life, slow living, and honest explorations of what we’re all going through. Travel notes, seasonal rituals, tender and true stories, and so much more.
  • Select stories from our print volumes that are now living online, so you can revisit and share them time and again.
  • Recipes from the land and sea, some simple, some worth the slow simmer.
  • New photography and videos created just for the site to bring the words to life.
  • Connection with other readers, by commenting on the stories, how they made you feel, questions that arose, and anything that comes to mind.
  • CommunityFOLK, a directory celebrating the people and businesses who share our values.

The site is built to explore. You can browse editorial by theme—Culture & Conversation, Death & Grief, Food & Ritual, Nature & Place, Tender & True, and more—or start with the newest pieces right on the homepage as they come out. Each category is its corner of the FOLKLIFE world, from the artist’s studio to the forest trail, the kitchen table to the ferry dock.

We’ll also be publishing FOLKLIFE news and insider Gulf Islands recommendations as we look to serve our community in new ways.

If you’re here for the first time, you might begin with:

  • Our latest Volume: Waste, and the behind-the-scenes reflections that shaped it.
  • New stories based on the incoming print Volume’s death theme, to get you prepared for such a deep journey.
  • Shopping our new and expanded volume descriptions for all print volumes, and discover new topics to explore.
  • Our story, including a new fabulous video, and how FOLKLIFE came to be.
  • A stop in the CommunityFOLK section to meet the makers and hosts who bring the islands to life.

If you want every new piece, every new Volume, and all the slow living inspiration in between, you can subscribe. Either to our new digital newsletter, or to the magazine—it’s the best way to hold FOLKLIFE in your hands and keep this work going.

This site is meant to be a gathering place. Read something that moves you? Leave a comment. Share it with a friend.

Come back tomorrow, or next week, or when you just need a little space from the rush of things.

Welcome to your new home for slow west coast living. We’re glad you’re here.
