The Builder Volume Cover Reveal

I chose it based on the story it is telling. Based on where they’re going, what they’re building, who they are, and the land.

It features an important builder in my life, and our daughter. To me, this photo epitomizes the Builder Volume.

In the making of this builder volume, we focused on many aspects of building. I have always been acutely aware that every decision I make is building the one life I get to live. That awareness has made me an indecisive person. My life could go in two very different directions based on one seemingly small choice.

Even as a teen, I was always thinking about the ‘Sliding Doors’ scenario, wondering what my future would look like if I opened a door for someone or if I didn’t. I don’t dwell on it the same way now, but I still wake up and wonder: What brick will I lay today for this one wild and precious life?

Many fascinating builder folks appear in this volume, all exploring inspiring ways to build. To build a life, yes—but also a home, a house, a hostel, a boat, a car, a she shed, a flower, a body, a cake, a business, a restful sleep, an intentional community. We are so fortunate to have the time, space, and materials to build the things that nourish us.

We hope that in reading, you too find the inspiration to lay your foundations, raise your own walls, and make a shelter that reflects who you are and what you care about—in whatever way is most meaningful to you. Oh and of course, to slow the folk down.
